A little information on alexandrite: Originally found in 1834 in Russia and named for the tsar Alexander II, this stone changes color from a teal-green to a burgundy-purple depending on the type of light you are in. This stone is very rare, therefore natural Alexandrite with good color change is more expensive than diamond per carat. Today, several companies have isolated the mineral and have figured out how to it in laboratories. Lab-grown alexandrite is a lovely and much less expensive alternative that still gives you a beautiful color change.
